CLUB WATCH: Newport Head Top, Big Runs in North Wales and Wales Win Big

Imran Hussan, who last played for Glamorgan's Second XI in 2016 hit a century in a three-wicket victory despite all-round brilliance from Glamorgan's Jamie McIlroy.

The left-arm seamer, who is yet to be involved in Glamorgan's T20 Blast squads, took 3 for 15 in a full allocation and scored a quickfire 30 to keep his allocated Ammanford in the contest, alongside former Pakistan Test international Imran Butt's century.

Alex Horton also impressed with 70 after being dropped from the Blast team to take on Somerset and represented Wales National Counties in two T20s against Oxfordshire on Sunday where Callum Nicholls starred in two wins.

Bridgend Town led the way in the South Wales Premier League on week five with an unassailable 360 for 5 – all batters contributing. Wales head coach Brad Wadlan top-scored with 80 on his return to the club this year and Horton’s return to club form impressed before a shared effort with the ball dismissed Usk 174 short of the target to slip the Monmouthshire-based side to midtable after a strong start.

St Fagans found a first win, comfortably chasing 270 with seven wickets in hand. Despite, unusually, having no Nicholls in the side, all five batters used contributed to get their season up and running against Cardiff. And newly promoted Penarth and Carmarthen Wanderers both had wins – Penarth moving second while the west Wales side claimed their first win of the year against strugglers Pontarddulais and Abergavenny respectively.

In north Wales, a 284-run partnership between Kyle Williams and Mathew Ryan set the way for the still unbeaten St Asaph side as they piled on 394 for 6 against Mold. Then Ankush Upadhyaya claimed a seven-for to assure victory by over 200 runs.

Along with Williams, former Canada youth international Ayush Verma had a second century of the season to contest for the most runs tally spot – he hit a 67-ball 117 for league leaders Menai Bridge in their clear win over Gwersyllt Park.

In a divide between the top half and bottom half, wins for Denbigh (second), Brymbo (fourth) and Northop (fifth) separated themselves with victories over the winless Hawarden Park, Mochdre, and Bangor respectively.
