CLUB WATCH: T20 Candidates Vying for Selection Find Club Form

Will Smale and Alex Horton were both regular features in a new-look white-ball side last season as youth would often prevail in selection dilemmas with both candidates to take the gloves for the upcoming campaign.

Horton, fresh off the back of a century for Bridgend Town, continued his fine club form to put his side in a prominent position before rain interfered against Abergavenny. Smale’s 58 helped Usk to a Duckworth-Lewis win over Newport as both stay in early contention for the title race.

At the other end of the table, St Fagans and Pontarddulais have been unable to lift themselves out of the bottom two with just one result managed in their three games. Weather was seemingly Pontarddulais’ saviour on this occasion while only 12 complete overs were managed in Carmarthen.

Cardiff remained strong at the top with Cardiff UCCE keeper-batter Joe Willis top scoring. Glamorgan’s Romano Franco has starred for the Second XI T20 action in recent weeks and two wickets, including that of teammate Henry Hurle came at the weekend despite Penarth falling to a seven-wicket defeat.

In the North Wales Premier League, Denbigh stayed strong at the top with a nail-biting one-wicket win over high-flyers Byrmbo. Harrison Jones’ captain efforts – leading from the front with 58 and six wickets - ensured his side remaining undefeated.

Menai Bridge overseas Ayush Verma struck a devastating 20-ball 65 not out to also stay undefeated in a convincing win over Northop. Mold and Mochdre also recorded wins while rain set back St Asaph and Gwersyllt Park in the only abandoned game in the division.
