CLUB WATCH: Son of Glamorgan Legend Has Weekend to Remember

The 17-year-old wicket-keeper, who is son of Glamorgan Director of Cricket Mark Wallace, scored 62 for Newport before striking 153 not out for Glamorgan Under-18s and then 99 not out for Glamorgan Seconds against Somerset Seconds all within three days of each other.

Just five Glamorgan staff players were representing their allocated clubs due to a number of youngsters playing in the Vitality Blast – Cardiff’s Henry Hurle scoring 46 on debut.

In the South Wales Premier League, Penarth kept St Fagans winless in the tightest game of the week, separated by just six runs. Penarth recovered from 3 for 4 thanks to lower-order runs to get them over the line.

Usk went top on head-to-head after bowling previous leaders Cardiff out for just 115. Fellow point leaders Newport enjoyed a four wicket win over Bridgend Town. Along with Wallace, another second generation Glamorgan prospect, Jak Cosker - son of Dean - took two wickets to maintain prominence at the top.

Abergavenny continued their struggles, bowled out for just 92 by a strong Ammanford side thanks to a formidable opening spell by Glamorgan staff member Jamie McIlroy before Cardiff UCCE’s Rory Nicholson maintained his strong start to the season with the ball.

In north Wales, Nathanael Scott got Bangor their much-needed first win of the season with the highest score of the round. Menai Bridge stayed on top with more notable runs for Ayush Verma to overcome Denbigh. Mochdre and Northop both had convincing wins to keep Hawarden Park and Gwersyllt Park winless while St Asaph beat Brymbo in a thriller by 15 runs, the match including two centurions.

On Sunday, the South Wales Women’s Premier League returned. Radyr went top, leapfrogging Cardiff with a win over them in their local derby. The Panthers got their first win with a convincing 150-run margin over Newport set up by runs from former Glamorgan Academy players Megan Janczewski and Elizabeth Cox and Western Steel kept themselves in the hunt with a five-wicket win over Pembroke.
