Henry Hurle announced himself on debut with a fabulous 46 on Saturday night, but it wasn’t enough for Glamorgan as Matt Taylor’s outside edge for four off the last ball broke Glamorgan hearts for the second night in a row.

The 21-year-old’s entrance was something of a baptism of fire. At 45 for 5, not even at the halfway stage in the innings, and relied upon to get Glamorgan to a competitive score. The 31-ball stay had plenty of innovation to go with destructive hitting and patient showing and awareness of time to come.

A first of four sixes came with slight fortune, pulling Craig Miles into the deep, Kamran Dhariwal, who ended up being the Hurle opposite to get Gloucestershire of the line, dropped a diving effort over the rope. It was then chanceless even when on the attack. Slog sweeping Miles, then Matt Taylor to go with muscling the latter over long-on almost asserted his place in the side for the competition – not to mention his deft scoop for his only four of the innings.
