CLUB WATCH: Gorvin the All-Rounder, Horton and Smale get Blast Preparation

Gorvin scored 97 when opening the batting at short notice due to an overseas registration mishap and filled the role adequately. He then went on to take 2 for 24 in an eight-over new-ball spell as St Fagans’ form continues to take them up the table with a comfortable win over strugglers Abergavenny.

Wicket-keeper Horton was in his typical destructive T20 mood, taking 83 of a possible 107 and remaining not out in a nine-wicket win for Bridgend Town over Penarth – the perfect preparation for his time playing in the 2nd XI T20 county competition this week.

And Will Smale scored a quick half-century as Usk batters all chipped in to a 22-run win in a high-scoring game against relegation threatened Pontarddualis. Glamorgan young trio Romano Franco, Jack Hope-Bell and Ben Morris were also all in action for their allocated clubs.

Elsewhere Newport stayed on top thanks to a captain’s knock from Harry Friend and another all-round contribution in the form of a half-century, wicket-keeping duties and a wicket from Harry Wallace fresh off recognition for England under-19s. Tegid Phillips carried his bat for a century in a fighting chase for Cardiff but was unable to knock Newport off their winning run.

In bizarre circumstances, Ammanford’s home game against Carmarthen Wanderers was abandoned without a ball bowled due to an unfit pitch.

In the North Wales Premier League, St Asaph went big once again with another Williams century, this time from Evan – not Kyle. Their dominating victory over Hawarden Park kept the promoted team winless at the bottom.

Gwersyllt Park extended their gap from the bottom with a second win of the season, overcoming Mochdre, Menai Bridge stayed in the title hunt with an important win over Brymbo. Bangor continue to bounce back from their poor start and Mold’s six-wicket win over Northop was important to keep them above the drop.

In the South Wales Women’s Premier League the competition for the top continues to stay tight. Cardiff dropped from top spot to fourth with a defeat to The Panthers who subsequently leapfrog them. Radyr returned to top spot with a comfortable win over Pembroke, and Western Steel moved up the table with a tight victory over Newport.

Also on Sunday, Clydach represented Glamorgan & Gwent in the national rounds of the National Village Cup, losing a final-ball thriller by one-wicket over Oxfordshire’s Horspath in the last 32.
