CLUB WATCH: Smale Stars, Newport Stay Top, St Fagans on a Comeback

The wicket-keeper batter played in all six of Glamorgan's first block of T20s, scoring 130 runs. With a return to County Championship for Cricket, Smale was once again available for Usk where he scored 81 in their three-wicket win over Ammanford – nullifying the century made by former Pakistan international Imran Butt.

Elsewhere, Newport kept themselves on top with a two-wicket win over Penarth thanks to efforts from Cardiff UCCE duo Campbell MacMillan and Chris Cole with bat and ball. Cardiff kept themselves in the hunt, bouncing back in the last two weeks from two consecutive defeats. Their one-wicket win demonstrated contributions all-round prevail over individual brilliance shown by former Wales National Counties captain Mujeid Ilyas.

St Fagans kept their bounce back going to move well clear of the bottom two thanks to former Glamorgan player Owen Morgan’s 72 not out and shared wickets completing the professional performance over Ammanford. And Bridgend Town fought back in a low-scoring contest. Brad Wadlan’s two wickets for one run from seven overs helped bowl out Carmarthen Wanderers for just 81 after putting up only 141 themselves.

In north Wales, St Asaph moved top with a dominant win over fellow highfliers Menai Bridge, Denbigh kept themselves in a strong position with a solid chase of 241, losing just three wickets and Brymbo moved to second after a one-wicket in over Northop.

Bangor kept their composure after Smit Parekh set up their low-scoring win with 4 for 4. And Mold still sit narrowly clear of the bottom two despite falling to an eight-wicket defeat to Mochdre.
