Cardiff secured the only win in a rain-affected south Wales - thanks to centurion Steffan Jones in a dominant victory over Pontarddulais.
Cardiff managed the only result of the round in the South Wales Premier League to bounce back from consecutive defeats. Jones’ 125 not out was the catalyst as Cardiff scored 226 for 3 in the 30-over game. Wickets shared around then dismissed Pontarddulais cheaply to go second.
Elsewhere, Glamorgan pro Callum Nicholls almost saw his side over the line; The St Fagans youngster sent his side to a strong total of 171 for 7 in a T20 with Usk, only for the game to be abandoned with Usk at 72 for 3 in pursuit.
Newport only managed two overs against Carmarthen Wanderers while Ammanford, Abergavenny, Penarth and Bridgend Town managed no cricket at all.
In north Wales, weather was slightly more favourable. Menai Bridge were closed in at the top as they weren’t able to get a result with Bangor – St Asaph taking advantage with a tight one-wicket win to stay undefeated.
Gwersyllt Park got a first win of the Premier League season on the board over strugglers Hawarden Park. And Brymbo and Mochdre both found wins over Mold and Denbigh via Duckworth-Lewis respectively.
In the South Wales Women’s Premier League, Cardiff returned to the top with a rain-affected win on Sunday over Western Steel. Radyr suffered their first defeat, bowled out cheaply by The Panthers before Elizabeth Cox led the way in the nine-wicket win while Pembroke and Newport succumbed to rain.
