It is almost unanimously considered from those around women’s cricket that everything about it is better now than it ever has been.
In Tier Two, where Glamorgan play for the rest of this season before moving to professionalism in Tier One, there are competitions in the One Day Cup, the T20 Blast, the T20 County Cup, as well as development fixtures against Tier One second XIs in both limited overs and three-day matches, and academy fixtures too.
One player who has reaped the rewards of women’s cricket’s opportunities as they now are is Sara Phillips. The 21-year-old leg-spinner is able to make the most of all fixtures listed and has taken her chances when they’ve arrived – able to play against many professionals already despite the second tier status.
“The more cricket you play the better you get, we played against Lancashire Second XI testing ourselves against contracted players so it’s nice to do that and know we can compete with the best and do it in this league too.” She said when speaking to Taff & Daff in April.
