And it was to no surprise with grey skies, rain had been and unexpectedly gone and an 11am start was to everyone’s surprise. The toss had proved its importance almost instantly. When bad light prevented the game from an uninterrupted state just 13 minutes into play, Hampshire were already one wicket down.
Mir Hamza was back in for a five-match spell to end the season after an underwhelming 12 wickets in six matches back in 2024 and there was already more to enjoy than from his stint two years ago, ripping open the middle order.
