Glamorgan welcome red ball cricket back to Sophia Gardens this week as they entertain Hampshire in the County Championship. Glamorgan’s return to red ball cricket after the T20 and One Day Cup blocks didn’t get off to the best of starts last week as they fell to a controversial 42-run defeat away to Leicestershire.
The condition of the pitch at Grace Road was called into question and has been referred to the ECB Pitch Advisors. If the advisors find that the pitch was in breach of its regulations, Leicestershire could stand to lose all 19 points they gained against Glamorgan in their 42-run win. The pitch was referred by the match officials after constant inconsistencies lead to wickets for both sides and a low scoring game. The pitch had a strange look about it as well, with the two ends cut much shorter than the middle. Some have referred to it as ‘the mullet pitch.’
