Expectations are there to be confounded. There are so many times in life when it surprises you. Some good, some bad. A friend who never buys a round puts their hand in their pocket. A relative who never forgets your birthday doesn’t send you a card. Or your cricket team gets promoted to the top flight for the first time in two decades with a team that no one fancied and they are in the mix to win the County Championship.

The lot of being a Glamorgan cricket follower is all about waiting for the other foot to drop. This is a team who had spent 20 years in the second division of the County Championship. A side that has the second worst record in T20 cricket in the history of that format of the game in this country. The last time Glamorgan have won silverware in a competition that was competed in by full strength teams was the 45-over league in 2004.
