Bethan Ellis produced a superb unbeaten 71 from just 55 deliveries as Glamorgan Women maintained their perfect record with a dramatic eight-wicket victory over Sussex Sharks at Hove, sealing the win with only two balls remaining.

The result keeps Glamorgan at the top of League Two with three victories from three matches, while Sussex remain rooted to the foot of the table after suffering a third consecutive defeat.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Sussex recovered well from an early collapse to post an impressive 166 for 5 from their 20 overs. Gemma Porter was the standout bowler for Glamorgan, claiming excellent figures of 3 for 22 and helping reduce the hosts to 10 for 2 inside the opening three overs.

Porter removed both Izzy Collis and Nancy Harman before Sussex found stability through a crucial partnership between Mollie Adams and Shristi Patil. The pair added 73 runs for the third wicket, with Patil contributing a lively 28 from 22 balls before chipping a return catch to Porter.

Adams continued to anchor the innings with a classy knock of 80 from 59 deliveries, striking 11 boundaries in her third consecutive half-century. The 19-year-old played shots all around the ground and looked set for an even bigger score before slicing Bea Ellis to point in the 18th over.

Late acceleration from Bella Johnson, who finished unbeaten on 24 from 15 balls, and former Glamorgan loanee Poppy Tulloch, whose 17 not out came from just eight deliveries, helped Sussex reach a challenging total.

Glamorgan’s chase suffered an early setback when Daisy Jeanes was dismissed in the second over, but Lauren Parfitt and Warwickshire loanee Bethan Ellis quickly wrestled control of the contest. Their second-wicket partnership of 103 transformed the chase, with Glamorgan racing to 66 in the powerplay and reaching 92 at the halfway stage.

Parfitt made a valuable 37 from 34 balls before being stumped off Eve O’Neill, leaving Glamorgan needing 40 from the final five overs. Sussex sensed an opportunity, but Ellis remained composed despite battling injury and requiring Jeanes to act as a runner.

As the pressure mounted in the final over, Ellis delivered when it mattered most. The Warwickshire loanee pierced the covers for her tenth boundary before collecting the winning run moments later, bringing an end to a superb unbeaten innings and another successful afternoon for the League Two leaders.
