After a spritely and encouraging start to life back in Division One against Yorkshire, Glamorgan were brought firmly back down to earth at Trent Bridge this week, suffering a chastening defeat to the reigning champions by 192 runs.
It was a result that, while perhaps not entirely unexpected, did serve to highlight both the promise and the underlying concerns surrounding this side as they reacclimatise to the top flight after 21 years away.
Let’s start with the positives.
Timm van der Gugten once again produced an excellent performance, continuing to lead the attack with both class and penetration. His ability to take wickets and maintain pressure remains central to Glamorgan’s hopes this season, and he looks every bit a bowler capable of competing consistently at this level.
