In recent times, Glamorgan cricket has been about very pleasant surprises. From an unfancied team earning promotion last year to a strong performance in their opening fixture in the top flight in 2026, they have consistently exceeded expectations. But for the loss of most of the opening day to Welsh rain, they would have started their first Division 1 season in 21 years with a win.
What should come as no surprise is the form of Colin Ingram. In his usual understated style, he has once again begun the season as Glamorgan’s best batter. He now has over 5000 first-class runs for the club at an average above 50, with 17 hundreds in the format. That makes him, by some distance, the most prolific Glamorgan batter since his arrival ahead of the 2015 season. In fact, it is hard to think of any player in the last 20 years who has matched his level of consistent excellence for the club.
