Just a few days ago, a little later than I had promised the editor, I pressed send on a piece about Glamorgan’s batting coming together in the game against Leicestershire. There was a lack of hundreds, but plenty of positives with the bat. I ended that bit of writing by saying that there were still reservations about Glamorgan’s ability to take 20 wickets to go along with the decent showing with the bat.

Now, in the pleasing glow of Glamorgan’s first win in the First Division of the County Championship since 28 August 2005, it might be time to accept that Glamorgan are a good cricket team. It has been so long since there has been sustained periods of success that it has been hard for this to feel real. The two trophy wins in the One Day Cup are great, silverware is silverware. But such is the status of that competition where all the best white ball players are away playing in the hundred, they will always have some caveats next to them.
