As we head towards mid-summer, Glamorgan’s dream County Championship start turned into a nightmare with a drubbing from Sussex at Hove. Less a midsummer murder than a massacre as the south coast side strolled to an innings and 98 run victory. The loss plumates Glamorgan from third to eighth in the table and as drastic as that may sound, they still have a significant points buffer over the bottom two.

As has been the case so far this season, there is little time to feel sorry for themselves as they prepare to welcome the Championship juggernaut that is Surrey. The visitors have won three of the last four Championships and despite lukewarm start to this campaign, don’t be surprised to see them challenging again by the time September rolls around.
