What We Learnt on Day One of the County Championship

Glamorgan’s return to Division One after more than two decades, however, was whiplashed by Storm David which brought a spell of wet and windy weather across the UK. No more so than at Sophia Gardens whereby mid-afternoon, Glamorgan and Yorkshire found themselves the only two teams yet to get underway in 2026.

As pitch inspections continued to be pushed back further and further despite no viable rain falling, there was that similar sense of deja vu that comes with following the County Championship. Play finally got underway at 4:15, with the visitors winning the toss and putting the Welsh side into bat. So, what did we learn on day one of the season?
