Narrow Margins in the Light of Darkness

The margins of what defines someone having a “match-winning” contribution in limited-overs cricket is slim. In the case of Jimmy Neesham no one would look at the scorecard to see 14 not out off 10 balls and 0 for 37 from three overs to be anything of international quality – the arms aloft after evading the despairing Craig Overton dive said otherwise.
Likewise for the Somerset bowler Jake Ball, who finished 2 for 47, unable to defend 16 off the final over after conceding just 11 off his first two overs was cruel. Two overs which earned him the trusted opportunity to bowl the final over and were enough to mean that Glamorgan were up against it in the chase only to become the faltering point.
