You’d have been forgiven for thinking there’s no place for a leg-spinner in a County Championship match on Easter weekend – most counties have that view.
Glamorgan having Ben Kellaway at their disposal with his 25 wickets last season (not to mention more than 800 runs) would’ve made it too easy to pick a fourth seamer over Mason Crane. But that’s the issue. There are too many factors that can prevent a frontline spinner from selection, especially during the early stages of the season.
Crane, who has a test cap to go with his countless 12th man duties at county level, showed his worth with an authoritative first innings five-wicket haul against Yorkshire at Sophia Gardens.
