You would have to be quite mad to attempt that.

Either mad, or have nerves of steel, ice in your veins and any other turn of phrase which signifies complete serenity. When the person in question is 35-year-old Timm van der Gugten, playing his 344th professional match, you can guarantee it’s the latter. Who on earth, would scoop a 90mph England international when you need four to win off one ball?

The shot was obviously on; fine-leg up and a short-third in place meant if you could be brave it was on, but surely no one thought it was a genuine option - imagine the uproar from traditionalists if he’d missed. Thankfully for scrutiny’s sake he didn’t.

Unbelievable, utterly ridiculous, phenomenal. These were just some of the superlatives used on social media as Glamorgan fans reacted to their miracle comeback at Blackpool on Sunday. Chris Cooke’s 44 off 15 balls set up van der Gugten to claim Glamorgan’s second final ball victory of the week and their third win in the competition.
